Russell Crowe to Play Jor-El in ‘Superman: Man of Steel’
Deadline.com has the news that Russell Crowe will play Jor-El, Superman’s birth father, in the upcoming Superman franchise reboot, Man of Steel.
Jor-El was famously depicted by Marlon Brando in the 1978 Superman film, which was directed by Richard Donner.
Crowe joins a cast that includes Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, and Michael Shannon as the villain General Zod.
Man of Steel is set to reboot the Superman film franchise for Warner Bros. Zack Snyder is directing the movie, with production by Chris Nolan, Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer, based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
Slated for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
