News I Missed: Jeff Lemire’s Essex County to be Adapted into Movie

Looks like I missed this news on Monday, but Variety are reporting that vfx company Rhythm & Hues Studios is planning to adapt the first volume of Jeff Lemire’s Essex County trilogy, Tales From the Farm, into a feature film.
The movie will be filmed under the working title of “Super Zero”, and is set to be directed by “X-Men: First Class” visual effects supervisor John Dykstra, from a script penned by John Carr. The project will be produced by Steven Gilder and Alec Chorches.
Gilder tells Variety that the producers plan “to have a strong hard push in these next weeks, either locking cast and/or getting commitments from financing and/or distributors, (then) going to the studios with a package.” Their plan is to “make a big splash at ComicCon,” where Lemire and the publisher, Top Shelf Productions, will make an appearance.
“Super Zero” will be filmed as a live action movie, featuring extensive vfx sequences.
“I’m excited about the news and optimistic that John Dykstra will make an entertaining film that stays true to the heart of Essex County,” Lemire tells The National Post.
Tales from the Farm tells the story of Lester, a 10-year-old boy who is staying on his uncle’s isolated farm after the death of his parents. As a way to help deal with his grief, Lester escapes into fantasy hockey games with retired pro Jimmy Lebeuf.
