Last month, IDW Publishing announced the launch of an all-new comic miniseries, featuring the world’s most popular time-traveler: DOCTOR WHO: A FAIRYTALE LIFE. In this monthly, four-issue series, written by Matt Sturges (Jack of Fables) and licensed with BBC Worldwide, the Doctor must confront the question of which is better, an ugly reality or a beautiful fantasy. Reluctantly cast as a damsel in distress, Amy Pond is trapped in a medieval fantasy world in DOCTOR WHO: A FAIRYTALE LIFE, and it’s up to the Doctor to find a way out.
“As a lifelong Who fan, I really wanted to give the Doctor something to do that he’s never done before; and I’m fairly certain he’s never tilted a lance at a fire-breathing robot dragon,” said writer Sturges. “Once that lovely image popped into my mind, I basically wrote this story to force it to come into being.”
Sturges and artists Kelly Yates and Brian Shearer create this existential tale that will have readers guessing to the end. Fan-favorite Mark Buckingham (Fables, Miracleman) offers eye-catching covers. Amy Mebberson (Muppet Show, Monsters Inc.) supplies variant covers based on popular fairytales, including Snow White, Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland.
“It’s always great fun to see the Doctor go back in time to the Middle Ages or travel to a wacky amusement park in space,” said IDW’s DOCTOR WHO editor Denton J. Tipton. “Well, Matt has crafted a story that gives us both, with a touch of fantasy thrown in for good measure. This fantastic world is rendered beautifully by Kelly and Brian, with lush colors by Rachelle Rosenberg. The art alone is worth the price of admission.”

DOCTOR WHO: A FAIRYTALE LIFE #3 will be available in stores on June 8, 2011.
