Your Creator-Owned Comics Shopping List for April 6th, 2011
What is this?
Every week I like to pull apart Diamond’s confirmed shipping list for the week, and create a list of all of the creator-owned titles that will be arriving in stores that Wednesday. I then use the magic of Javascript to pull the details on the books from comiXology.com, and hey presto!
Why?
Good question! Well, the primary reason is that there are a ton of great creator-owned comics out there, and they are mostly being created on a shoe-string budget. This generally means that the creators are able to spend little to no money on marketing these titles, and so many books go by unnoticed, and just end up gathering dust on the shelves. My hope is that by reading through this weekly list, something might catch your eye, and you might decide to give something new a try. It’s by no means a list of everything you should be buying every week, but more like a guideline to let you know what is available, should you wish to try out a creator-owned comic.
Of the comics listed this week, I shall be picking up: Axe Cop: Bad Guy Earth #2, B.P.R.D.: The Dead Remembered #1, Chew #18, Irredeemable #24, iZombie #12, Madman #0: All-New Giant-Size Super Ginchy Special!, Memoir #3, Orc Stain #6, Raise the Dead II #4, Sweet Tooth #20, The Boys #53, The Weird World of Jack Staff #6, Usagi Yojimbo #136, and Witchfinder: Lost and Gone Forever #3.
There are also a few trades out this week that I would highly recommend, because I enjoyed them in single-issue format: Fables Vol. 15: Rose Red TP, Madman: Atomica! HC, and Zombies vs. Robots Aventure TP.
And if someone at Image could send me a free copy of the Madman: Atomica, I would appreciate the hell out of that!
What are you picking up this week?
As always, if you noticed something in the list that isn’t creator-owned, please let me know, and I’ll remove it. It’s sometimes hard to determine who actually owns what! One situation that I’m particularly unclear on is comics based on novels - is the novel’s creator the owner, or the original publisher?
Notice Something different?
I’m using Javascript instead of Flash now. It’s a little less pretty, but will allow the list to be viewed on mobile devices, and is avoids the security risks inherent in Flash.
