Playtone in Talks to Option Neil Gaiman’s ‘American Gods’ For HBO Series
Deadline has the scoop that Playtone has begun talks to acquire the Neil Gaiman novel American Gods to be developed into fantasy series. Apparently the project was brought to HBO by Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, and it was brought to them by Robert Richardson. The plan is for Richardson and Gaiman to write the pilot together.
Playtone’s TV credentials include the hit HBO shows Big Love, The Pacific, John Adams, Band of Brothers and From The Earth To The Moon.
Holy cow! I hope this comes to fruition because American Gods is one of my favourite novels. HBO and Playtone have produced some great TV in the past, and so definitely have the credentials needed to adapt a work such as this. Damn, does this mean I’m going to have to get HBO? As if their upcoming adaptation of a Game of Thrones wasn’t temptation enough!
