Near-Mint Copy of Amazing Fantasy # 15 Sells for $1.1 Million
A near-mint condition copy of Amazing Fantasy #15, published in 1962 and featuring the debut appearance of Spider-Man, sold at auction on Monday for an astonishing $1.1 million!
The comic, original priced at 12c, was sold via the website ComicConnect.com, with both the buyer and seller of the book choosing to remain anonymous.
The record sale price for a comic book remains held by a copy of Action Comics No. 1, featuring the debut of Superman, which made $1.5 million last year. However, this is the highest price that has ever been paid for a Silver-Age comic.
ComicConnect.com chief executive Stephen Fishler, says, “The fact that a 1962 comic has sold for $1.1 million is a bit of a record-shattering event. That something that recent can sell for that much and be that valuable is awe-inspiring.”
