‘V’ Star Morena Baccarin Among Whedon’s Shortlist of Actresses for ‘The Avengers’
The Hollywood Reporter has the news that Marvel will be conducting screen tests this Friday, for one of the final roles to be cast in The Avengers. Last night, Samuel L. Jackson revealed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon that the role to be cast is that of his character, Nick Fury‘s “sidekick.” Some have speculated that the role may be that of Avengers team member Janet van Dyne/the Wasp, but Marvel have declined to comment.
According to THR, V star Morena Baccarin is on the list of actresses testing for the role, along with Jessica Lucas, Cobie Smulders and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The test deals for the role involve a nine-picture option, with a 30-day hold on the actresses.
The Avengers is being written and directed by Joss Whedon, and the cast announced thus far includes Scarlett Johansson (as the Black Widow), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor). The release dat has been set for May 4th, 2012.
