San Diego, CA (February 1, 2022) -COBRA COMMANDER is dead and the most lethal COBRA operatives must now compete to become the next supreme evil being. The battle begins in April with G.I. JOE: COBRA CIVIL WAR #0, coming from IDW Publishing, under license from Hasbro. In May, this colossal event spins into three all new ongoing series: COBRA, G.I. JOE and SNAKE EYES.

“We’ve built a lot of great momentum these past two years, and we wanted to ramp up the action and intrigue even further,” said Andy Schmidt, IDW’s G.I. JOE editor. “These new books are a great jumping off point. Everything has been leading up to this-this is where it really gets good.”

After COBRA COMMANDER is killed in G.I. JOE: COBRA #12, COBRA operatives around the world compete to reign supreme in G.I. JOE: COBRA CIVIL WAR #0, on sale in April. The winner will be the COBRA operative who kills the most members of the G.I. JOE team. The all-star writing team of Chuck Dixon and Mike Costa craft this landmark issue, which features three separate, ten-page stories. Artists Javier Saltares, Antonio Fuso, Agustin Padilla each bring one story to life.

“With G.I. JOE: COBRA CIVIL WAR #0, we’re giving readers a taste of what each of the three series will be,” added Schmidt. “Each series will be self-contained enough to enjoy on its own, but I don’t think any reader or fan will be content with just one series. The books are getting more tightly interwoven because an event like this MUST impact all corners of the universe in a profound way.”

G.I. JOE: COBRA CIVIL WAR #0 is just the beginning of this universe-changing event. Kicking off in May, IDW will launch three monthly series, each showing the aftermath of COBRA COMMANDER’S death from a different side. COBRA follows the plots, double crosses and outright blood bath of those striving to be the next COBRA COMMANDER, written by Mike Costa and with art by Antonio Fuso. SNAKE EYES showcases the deadliest G.I. JOE in his own series, written by Chuck Dixon with art by Robert Atkins and Agustin Padilla. G.I. JOE chronicles the COBRA “trial by combat” to become COBRA COMMANDER from the G.I. JOE point of view — written by Chuck Dixon, with art by Javier Saltares.

To further commemorate this momentous event, IDW will offer G.I. JOE: COBRA COMMANDER TRIBUTE in April, featuring the entire G.I. JOE: COBRA #12 issue plus special features and stories. This special, 100-page issue will boast new insights from major COBRAand G.I. JOE players on what the demise of the Commander might mean for them and the world, creator interviews, and more, along with classic COBRA COMMANDER tales from the past.
