Steve Niles’ Wake the Dead Picked Up by Slash’s New Horror Label
Last night at Sundance film festival, former Guns & Roses guitarist, Slash, announced the launch of his new horror-movie production company, Slasher Films, in which he’s partnering with Scout Productions.
Entertainment Weekly caught up with Slash to quiz him on the announcement, and to see what movies they currently had in development. One of the movies he announced was Wake the Dead, which he describes as being ” basically a modern, young Frankenstein story about a brilliant college student who’s discovered how to animate dead tissue — but he’s a teenager so he goes overboard.”
This sounds a heck of a lot like the plot for the Steve Niles penned IDW miniseries of the same name, a fact that was confirmed by Niles on his Facebook page.
Wake the Dead was originally optioned back in 2008 by Holding Pictures, with James V. Hart set to write the script and Jay Russell to direct.
Published by IDW in 2004, and illustrated by Chee, Wake the Dead is a modern twist on the classic Frankenstein story, and tells the tale of a college student called Victor, whose goal is to reverse death.
Wake the Dead will be the second Niles project to hit the big screen, after 2007′s 30 Days of Night.
