From the press release:

Morningside Entertainment has optioned Bluewater Comic’s “Sinbad: Rogue of Mars” to adapt into an epic action adventure fantasy feature for 2012. A continuation of the Sinbad films that started in 1958 with “The 7th Voyage of Sinbad”, and followed in the 1970’s with “The Golden Voyage of Sinbad” and “Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger”, “Rogue of Mars” is an updated sequel rather than a reboot.

Executive Producer Barry Schneer revealed that Rogue of Mars is the first of a planned new trilogy that will bring this beloved character to a whole new generation while still showing respect to the original fans, “I am thrilled to continue the amazing legacy my uncle, Charles Schneer began with 7th Voyage and bring to the screen the Sinbad movie that he and Ray Harryhausen never got to make.”

In his 4th film adventure, Sinbad and his crew find a magical urn and are soon transported to another planet by a ruthless and vengeful Jinn bent on freeing his race who have been imprisoned for millennia and then laying waste to the ones responsible.

“Sinbad has always been one of more popular titles in our library that also includes “Wrath of the Titans” and “Jason and the Argonauts”, says Darren G. Davis, Publisher of Bluewater Comics. “It certainly lends itself to a big-budget tentpole movie.”

Morningside along with its banking partner, Pablo Antoniazzi, Director of the Brazilian Bank, Estratejia Investimentos, S.A. have co-ventured to structure the financing for this epic film. Recently, the group has tapped Screenwriter and Comic Creator Paul J. Salamoff to write the screenplay for a reported mid six figures. Salamoff is the author of the critically acclaimed comic series “Logan’s Run: Last Day”. He also has a number of films currently in development.

Bluewater Production’s “Sinbad: Rogue of Mars” new Graphic Novel will be available in April 2011. Primarily distributed through traditional retail outlets, the graphic novel will also be available through several online venues including Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.

Bluewater Comics is repped by Steve Fisher & Debbie Deuble (APA). Paul J. Salamoff is repped by Scott Agostoni (WME) and Kailey Marsh (Faction M)

This movie is going to bring a long awaited character back to the silver screen. I hope the guys at Morningside dont sell out and go with all CGI. Considering the film is being Executive Produced by Charles Schneer’s protege and nephew Barry Schneer, I hope it carries the soul of the older pictures.

  2. Cindy says:

I cant wait to see this movie. It will be awesome in 3D, especially if they use stop-motion modeling. My hats off to Barry Schneer for following through with a project that has been long awaited by the fans of the earlier Schneer/Harryhausen trilogy.

  3. John says:

I agree with Cindy about 3D. Sinbad in Mars fighting off all sorts of creatures and aliens in high definition IMAX and 3D makes for an amazing film. I am curious to see what Exec. Producer Barry Schneer and the Morningside team will do with Sinbad. This film has the platform for a successful box office hit. Anyone have any idea when the movie movie will be released?

Although i havent spoke to him in awhile, I’ve known Barry Schneer for many years and can remember him always talking about this great adventure he envisioned for the next Sinbad. Im really glad he’s finally doing it. Congrats!!!!!

  5. Mark says:

I can wait for this movie to finally be made and released. I was a big Sinbad follower as a kid. And now as an adult I have the opportunity to see Sinbad again in a whole different light and with the ideas of this generation. I hope the creatures are as creative as the ones Harryhausen created in the classic Sinbad films. Given all this, we are in store for an exceptional film.

  6. Jimmy says:

I am extremely excited to know what this movie is going to be like. I have seen the classic old Sinbad films. There is no doubt, this movie is going to be good. If you have watched the classic movies, they were well made films. However, the key to this movies success is that this movie needs great actors, and top flight directing. The platform is there for success. So the producers need to take full advantage of this opportunity which I am certain they will.

  7. JENNY B says:

ABOLUTELY LOVE THE SINBAD CHARACTER!!!!! WISHING ALL THE SUCCESS TO BARRY SCHNEER FOR MAKING IT HAPPPEN!!!! )

  8. Sandy L. says:

I love this project. Wish they made more fantasy films nowadays. Glad guys like Barry Schneer still willing to challenge the big screen. Good luck, he’ll need it.
