SDCC 2010: Working Title Films to Adapt Kurt Busiek’s Astro City
In was announced during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con today that Working Title films has bought the rights to adapt Kurk Busiek’s Astro City.
Astro City was co-created by Kurt Bukiek and artist Brent Anderson, and tells the story of the lives of the citizens of Astro City - a mecca for super-powered beings. The first series debuted in August 1995, published by Image Comics, and since then has been published by Homage Comics (now part of Wildstorm Signature Series).
“I’m thrilled to be doing Astro City with Working Title Films,” said Busiek. “For years, we turned down all offers for the book, but Working Title’s track record on great movies like Love Actually, Oh Brother, Where Are Thou? and Shaun of the Dead, and their commitment to high-quality, character-driven storytelling, make me confident that this is the perfect place to make an Astro City film a reality.”
Kurt Busiek is writing a treatment for the movie, and will also serve as executive producer along with Ben Barenholtz and Jonathan Alpers.
