SDCC 2010: 2000 AD/Rebellion Makes a Statement about the DEA Seizure

2

As Reported here yesterday (http://www.hypergeek.ca/2010/07/sdcc-the-dea-seizes-all-stock-of-judge-dredd-megazine-300.html), the US Drug Enforcement Agency had seized all copies of Judge Dredd Megazine #300 that Rebellion publishing had shipped over from the UK, to sell at San Diego Comic-Con 2010.

Today, Rebellion Publishing, the publisher of 2000 AD and Judge Dredd Megazine, made a statement about the DEA’s actions:

Official statement from the Nerve Centre regarding the US DEA seizing British Sci-Fi Comic 2000 AD stock:

“Rebellion can confirm the US DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) seized San Diego Comic Con bound 2000 AD stock for inspection due to the threat of a  Thrill Power overload. The stock has since been released and the 2000 AD droids are hoping to have it delivered in time for the weekend of the convention.

2000 AD founder and British comic legend Pat Mills joins the droids at San Diego this year to launch the exclusive US line of graphic novels, which were not amongst the stock seized”

So there you have it! I guess the DEA were just worried about Thrill Power overload, but once they got a look inside, they just couldn’t stand to deprive the American public of such zarjaz comic bookery!

Splundig Vur Thrigg!

Hypergeek has a plugger in the Department of Culture as this is the url James Butler, their Media Desk Officer, sent in responding to my queries. Is there a follow-up as to where and when the stock was received, if done so yet?

  2. Edward Kaye says:

Well, that’s nice to know I spoke to Rebellion, and they managed to get the stock back, and had it on sale for the weekend of the convention. Hopefully this won’t affect regular North American shipments of the Megazine.
