Alan Moore Tells DC Where to Stick Their Watchmen Prequels and Sequels!
Wired.com have revealed that during an interview that they conducted with Alan Moore, about his multimedia spoken-word box set Unearthing, Moore told them that DC recently offered him the rights to Watchmen, and he turned them down!
From to the article:
“They offered me the rights to Watchmen back, if I would agree to some dopey prequels and sequels,”
“So I just told them that if they said that 10 years ago, when I asked them for that, then yeah it might have worked,” he said. “But these days I don’t want Watchmen back. Certainly, I don’t want it back under those kinds of terms.”
“I don’t even have a copy of Watchmen in the house anymore,” he said. “The comics world has lots of unpleasant connections, when I think back over it, many of them to do with Watchmen.”

Many people are probably thinking he’s just being a curmudgeon, but I applaud this decision. Fans don’t want a series of watered down prequels and sequels. DC just wants to milk this puppy for all it’s worth, and couldn’t give a damn about devaluing the source material. They really need to come up with some new ideas, rather than continuing to wring the last drops out of a story that was written nearly 25 years ago!
Instead of looking to the past, why not look to the future, and go and order yourself a copy of Unearthing!
