Hugo Weaving in Talks to Play the Red Skull in ‘The First Avenger: Captain America’
The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that Hugo Weaving is in talks to play the role of The Red Skull in The First Avenger: Captain America.
The Red Skull is a fan favourite character from the comic book series, and the arch-nemesis of Captain America. The Red Skull was first introduced in Captain America Comics #1 in 1941. Hitler personally trained the man who would become the Skull, as his right-hand man. Upon completion of his training, Hitler gave him a unique uniform with a grotesque red skull mask. His role was the embodiment of Nazi intimidation, while Hitler could remain the popular leader of Germany.
Paramount Pictures is set to distribute The First Avenger: Captain America on July 22, 2011. The film is being directed by Joe Johnston, produced by Kevin Feige, with a screenplay is being written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. No cast members have yet been announced.
