Quesada & Bendis Talks to USA Today about Marvel’s ‘Heroic Age’ and ‘The Avengers #1′!

Joe Quesada and Brian Michael Bendis have talked to USA Today about Marvel’s upcoming Heroic Age event!

The Heroic Age ushers in a new age for the Marvel Universe, and will see a shift from the dark and gritty storytelling of ‘Civil War’, ‘Secret Invasion’, and ‘Dark Reign’, to a lighter and more optimistic tone, where heroes will once again be heroes.

Quesada revealed that the Heroic Age will start to affect Marvel’s titles in May 2010, starting with an all-new Brian Michael Bendis penned Avengers #1, which will reunite the original team of Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor!

Quasada had this to save of the move:

“Heroes will be heroes again,” says Marvel editor in chief Joe Quesada. “They’ve gone through hell and they’re back to being good guys — a throwback to the early days of the Marvel Universe, with more of a swashbuckling feel.”… “There is no sanitizing of the Marvel books at all,” he says, promising stories will remain “edgy” and contemporary. “Our philosophy here is to just keep telling good stories.”

Brian Michael Bendis had this to add:

“The ‘brand new day’ of the Heroic Age presents a tonal shift to optimism, a world filled with hope but quite hellish villains,” Bendis says. “The heroes realize it’s a blue-sky world worth protecting.”… “This was always the plan, and I have the memos to prove it,”… “This was always the whole point — the reunion, the Avengers getting back together, because this is what the world needs right now,” Bendis says. “Now we get to the good stuff.”
