Marvel have released their April 2010 solicitations, and much to fans’ surprise, and along with the solicitation for Siege #4 (of 4), it looks like they have announced finale issues for New Avengers, Dark Avengers, Mighty Avengers, and Avengers: The Initiative.

This revelation has caused geeks around the world to faint in disbelief, and shake their fists at the sky, screaming “WHY MARVEL, WHHHHHY?”

OK, but really, before you go and hang yourself, think about this logically. Do you really think that Marvel would cancel four of their best selling titles? Hell no! This is clearly just a marketing ploy to get fans to run out and buy as many copies of the ‘finale’ as they can get their hands on.

Siege #4 is released this same month, and its conclusion will bring an end to Norman Osbourne’s Dark Reign, and herald what Marvel are terming ‘The Age of Heroes‘. Dark Avengers is obviously going to come to an end, because Norman is no longer running the show; New Avengers is obviously going to come to an end, because the team will no longer be operating underground; and the other Avengers teams operate under H.A.M.M.E.R., so now that they are gone, these teams will have to dissolve.

But what should fans expect to see after these finales? All new #1 issues, featuring new team line-ups, of course! Maybe there won’t be four avengers books, but I’d expect to see at least two new series debut, and probably both of them written by Bendis. The main book will likely be titled The Avengers, and will feature Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man, reuniting the original team that Bendis destroyed in ‘Avengers Disassembled‘, seven years ago. Hell, I’d definitely buy that!
