John Malcovich Confirms Casting for The Vulture Role in Spider-Man 4

Comingsoon.net are reporting what they claim is John Malkovich confirming the rumour that he will play the villain know as The Vulture, in Spider-Man 4.

Apparently, Malkovich was interviewed by an Italian sports show called “Quelli Che il Calcio”, where he was quoted as saying:

“When conductor Simona Ventura asked him about his role of Vulture in the movie, he not only didn’t deny his involvement, but confirmed that he’s waiting for the final script to be sent to him, and that the movie has been delayed. He also hopes that shooting will begin as soon as possible.”

This news emerges amidst the speculation surrounding delays in the filming, and release date, of Spider-Man 4 (see here). It seems that Sam Raimi has sent the script back for a rewrite, because he “hated” it. Sources are claiming that the script issue is actually a dispute between Raimi and Sony over what villain will be in the movie. Apparently Raimi wants to have the Vulture act as the primary antagonist in the film, while the studio is pushing for a romantic sub-plot involving the Black Cat, in addition to another villain.

If Malkovich is confirming his role, this could indicate that Raimi has won over in the dispute, but bear in mind that this all speculation at the moment.

The Vulture is one of the earliest villains in the Spider-Man comics, and was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in The Amazing Spider-Man #2. The Vulture is Adrian Toomes, a former electric engineer from Staten Island, New York. Toomes was once the business partner of a man named Gregory Bestman; Bestman handled the finances while Toomes, the inventions. One day, after creating a flight harness, Toomes eagerly rushed into Bestman’s office to share the happy news. However, Bestman was not there, and Toomes discovered that Bestman had secretly been embezzling funds and that Toomes had no legal recourse. Enraged, Toomes wrecked the business, discovering that the harness also granted him superhuman strength. He then decided to turn to crime professionally as the Vulture. His wings are as sharp as swords and can be used as projectile weapons. They will replenish themselves so he can maintain flying abilities.
