DC Announces Brightest Day, a 26-issue, Bi-Weekly Follow-up to Blackest Night! [UPDATED]

4

On DC’s The Source blog Alex Segura has posted a live interview with DC Executive Editor Dan Didio, in which Dan reveals the what’s coming after the Blackest Night event.

Apparently, DC plans to follow-up Blackest Night with a 26-issue, bi-weekly series called Brightest Day.

Brightest Day will debut in April with Brightest Day #0, and will be written by Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps writers, Geoff John and Peter Tomasi. In addition, the two main GL books will also bear a Brightest Day banner, and I assume will tie into events in the maxi-series.

Didio was unwilling to reveal the lineup of artists that will be working on the title, but did reveal that the artwork on Brightest Day #0 will be Fernando Pasarin.

The news was accompanied by the image posted below, which shows the Black Lantern symbol being eclipsed by that of a White Lantern Symbol. Yeah I called this months ago, but what are you going to do. I look forward to the inevitable White Lantern ring to go with all of my other corps rings!

UPDATE: DC have just released more details on Brightest Day, including the fact that rather than just being contained to the maxi-series and the core Green Lantern books the event will have ramifications across the entire DC Universe, which will affect a number of titles. Several titles will therefore bear the Brightest Day banner on their covers, in order to let readers know that the issue ties into the event.

One of the titles that Didio revealed would bear the banner was the new Flash ongoing series by Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul. To find out more about the title, and to see the issue #1 cover art, click here.

UPDATE: DC have now announced that Titans is one of the titles that will bear the Brightest Day banner. The series will also see Eric Wallace and Fabrizio Fiorentino come onboard as the new creative team. Their run will start with the Titans: Villains for Hire Special, before kicking into an ongoing title. The new Titans team will be lead by Deathstroke, and the roster will include the Tattooed Man and Cheshire.

UPDATE: DC have now announced that Justice League of America will start bearing the Brightest Day banner, beginning with issue #44. However, Didio was tight lipped on what members would appear of this incarnation of the league.

UPDATE: DC have now revealed that David  Finch will be the regular cover artist on all the Brightest Day books. Finch Recently signed an exclusive contract with DC (see here).
